The word tahaarah has two root words:Ī) From ta-hu-ra: it is an adjective (laazim) for the person who has tahaarah.ī) From ta-ha-ra: it is muta’adi (having a characteristic to affect others). Tahaarah: linguistically, it means to purify and to cleanse. (There are other collections, for example: kitaab as-salah, etc). Therefore, when he says: “Kitaab al-tahaarah”: it means a collection of issues related to tahaarah. The author applied this term to explain the issues in tahaarah which are compiled and connected to each other. Kitaab then, is a “combination and grouping of words and letters in a line”. From this we have the word “kutayb” as in “ kutayb al-jaysh” – when the soldiers in an army stand together. The word kitaab refers to “combination and collectiveness”. Kitaab – is the root word for the past tense of ka-ta-ba. We must understand its terminology in order to truly understand –here every word is important. The author, may Allaah have mercy on him, has started his book with kitaab at-tahaarah. Book of Purification (Kitaab at-Tahaarah continued)
